Koloni refers to small communities of animals or people that live in isolation—detached from the rest of the world, yet at the same time at one with it. The term can also point to different phases of life: places you stay and encounters with people and ideas that, in the moment, feel isolated but, over time, become part of a larger whole.
With Koloni, Arnfinn Langesæter steps forward with a warm, searching saxophone voice and compositions inspired by both Nordic melancholy and singable minimalism. Together with a dedicated team of musicians, each composition is given space to unfold—like a small ecosystem where ideas can take root and grow.
Artist bio
Arnfinn Langesæter is a saxophonist whose music reaches far beyond the traditional boundaries of the instrument. With the saxophone as his main voice, he creates music that is both immediately captivating and hypnotically repetitive.
Raised in Hardanger and shaped by both folk melodies and his father’s record collection, Langesæter developed a distinctive musical language early on — a blend of Nordic stillness and raw expressivity. He moves freely between a range of instruments, giving his music a characteristic and highly personal sonic world. Since studying at the Grieg Academy, he has for years been a central, if often understated, presence in Oslo’s jazz scene. His collaborations range from the psychedelic ensemble The Harvey Steel Show to experimental vocal jazz with Karoline Wallace and contemporary instrumental jazz with the Tore Ljøkelsøy Quartet.
