Press

The Third Place marks the debut album of the trio Oswald / Užameckis / Asheim, a powerful meeting between three distinct voices from Copenhagen’s improvised music scene. The album captures the trio’s particularly sensitive approach to improvised music, with dynamic variation and attention to detail, recorded live in concert from Koncertkirken in Copenhagen.

The title refers to the concept of “the third place” – the space we inhabit outside of home and work. These are environments of creativity and exchange, where conversation and imagination intermingle. A place to venture into the unknown, to risk and to improvise together.
Musically, The Third Place is both pulsating and expansive. It moves from driving, rhythmic interplay to moments of weightless openness. The trio’s sound is deeply shaped by its surroundings: Koncertkirken in Copenhagen, with its vast, resonant acoustics, becomes almost a fourth member of the ensemble, amplifying both the energy and the silence within the music.

The trio brings together pianist Margaux Oswald (French-Filipina), whose acclaimed solo debut Dysphotic Zone was recognized internationally in 2022, bassist Aurelijus Užameckis (Lithuania), founder of Copenhagen’s CRRNT Collective, and drummer Ivar Myrset Asheim (Norway), a Norwegian Grammy winner with the band Konradsen. Active across a wide range of ensembles and collaborations, they’ve emerged from Copenhagen’s improvised music scene with a shared commitment to collective exploration and improvisation.
